In adults, a condition in which the blood pressure is higher than 140mm/hg systolic or 90mm/hg diastolic on three separate readings recorded several weeks apart is known as hypertension. Blood pressure is defined as the product of cardiac output and peripheral resistance, Hypertension is therefore said to be caused by increased cardiac output and or increased peripheral resistance. There are many causes for this condition but many patients diagnosed as unknown causative factors. It is also known as essential hypertension.
